Want more Paitence? Try Yoga meditation

Hi Yoga fans

Hope you are having an awesome day.

"Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is paitence."

I love this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, I hope you will appreciate it's wisdom also.

We all have issues with patience and would love to be MORE patient

Studies have found that people who are impatient usually have difficulty resisting the need for immediate gratification.

Sometimes they appear to others to be impulsive. These same studies have shown that meditation helps with developing paitence and curbing impulsiveness. The silent witness meditation technique is especially helpful in this instance, if you have ever thought that you would like to be a more patient person, let me reassure you it is possible.

If you would like to know more feel welcome to check out our timetable for class times, meditation, hatha yoga, yoga nidra and more. Look for an activity that would suit you and your schedule. Come and see us soon.

Have a great day.

One Mantra can make a difference

YES ..!! Absolutely one "Man" can totally make a difference, as you can see from the photo above. It took him some time but he was literally able to move a mountain .. WELL ... carve it up a bit :) How incredible is that, the determination and grit to carry on for all those years .. big admiration and R.E.S.P.E.C.T...!

And yes, I would like to add that ONE mantra can also make a huge difference. In fact if you were to say the sacred mantra Gauranga, just once, or once a day every day, just quietly to yourself, you will quiet literally change your life :)

Anyway, there's too much to go on about it here .. BUT if you are curious and would like to know more? why not check our Timetable YMSPB hold yoga meditation classes for beginners, we encourage you to come check it out. Find out what you've been missing all this time :)

We also offer classes on Hatha Yoga, Yoga Nidra for stress relief and relaxation .. there's heaps of goodies on offer, I'm sure you will find an activity you would like to try. Just remember you are always welcome, when ever you are ready we are close by.

Good person through - Meditation

Take care

At times you may feel as though being a 'good' person is slightly out of your grasp.

Even if you wanted to be a good person, where is the instruction manual? Where are the teachers, the coaches, and the schools? People spend years studying how to be good at everything - from sports to medicine to plumbing - except how to be good to people.

You have a really good chance of becoming a 'good' person by practicing meditation and applying the tried and true formula's of past and present Yoga saints. They teach us that we are neither our earth body or our subtle body (the mind or thoughts).

We offer Yoga Nidra classes here at our Yoga studio, through this practice you are able to experience this for yourself. One of the exercises, is to watch the thoughts that come into your mind and exit again, just as you watch a cloud come into view and then pass off into the distance. In this way you are able to have practical experience of not being the  mind or thoughts within the mind. You are in fact the observer of the mind. Knowing that 'you' are in charge of your thoughts enables you to better control or manage the mind and your thoughts.

Through the practice of meditation you also become aware of the fact that we are all brothers and sisters, kindred spirits in a sense, muddling through life. The revelations that come from this understanding make it so that you automatically become more aware that you should be more caring and more careful of how you treat others, through word or action.

One must remember that not all meditations are equal. Not all meditations lead to the same place. It is important to receive your meditation from an authentic source and that the meditations are linked to the Lord of Yoga - Yogesvara the Supreme.

This is a massive topic, if you would like to find out more on who 'YOU' are, your essence - I encourage you to contact us, leave a comment or visit our Fb page and sister blogs. It's a super fascinating subject one that I'm sure you will find once given due diligence will enrich your life forever.

Take care

Our Yoga Palm Beach Day Retreats are pretty informal, relaxed and alot of fun. Our program and times are flexible allowing everything to flow nicely.

*Short talks - Yoga Wisdom * Learn Meditation & Pre-meditation techniques * Group singing meditation * Gauranga Breath awareness * Om Hari Om Practise * Pranayama * Hatha Yoga class * Yoga Nidra class * Massage * Simple AND delicious Vegetarian Lunch, Herbal Teas, Pure water.

Short Talks On the history of yoga and the spiritual side of yoga.
Meditation

One of the meditations we will practise will be a group activity. Group meditation to music is traditionally known as kirtan. Simply put - the singing of sacred yoga mantras generally accompanied by guitar, or other instruments.

A nice description of the meaning of Kirtan is - The sound of the soul singing. A lovely ancient practice which helps us to re-connect with our higher awareness. This powerful practise can draw us into a profound state of deep meditation and joy. A truly heartfelt communication causing the sleeping spiritual essence of a person to awaken and flourish.
On the physical level singing is very therapeutic, it is good for our cardiovascular system, increases our lung capacity, helps reduce stress and has a powerful effect on our moods.

Combining singing with yoga mantras creates a very potent combination. By relaxing into the sound we can experience the soothing waves of spiritual energy from our meditation. This gives us the heart connection and deep peace that we're always seeking.

If you are a fan of yoga or even if you have never been to a yoga class before, here's an opportunity for you, come join in on the day. Stretch, strengthen and find your yoga breath.

The introductory yoga class will be flowing and gentle. You will be in safe hands, just let the teacher know if you have any body issues. If you are under a doctors care get the go ahead from them to be doubly sure it is safe for you to practise yoga.

We will practise yoga nidra or sleep yoga to achieve a sense of refuge, deep rest and rejuvenation. This is a very popular class, once you have tried it you will understand why.

I can assure you it's a blissfully relaxing experience, you will feel really great afterwards. This practise helps to relieve stress, tension, and anxiety. Come along and try it for yourself.

We will practise Pranayama or breath awareness. You will find it to be a very healthy, simple practise you can easily add to your collection of natural health aids which will benefit the overall wellbeing of yourself and your family.

These timeless practises are powerful and effective. The techniques are so straight forward and simple that you will find you can easily slot them into your daily routine.

You can take the skills that you learn and continue with your practise at home. In this way you will be able to keep the yoga meditation experience with you until you have the opportunity to come back and practise with us again.

The consistent practise of your meditation will ensure that you keep experiencing all of the health giving benefits for body mind and spirit. You will be less stressed, more focused, balanced and enlivened.

Hatha yoga asanas, yoga nidra, pranayama, etc,. are all pre-meditation techniques greatly benefiting body and mind. Singing meditation or kirtan takes care of the 'soul' or "spirit" component of our wholistic practise. A melodious voice is not necessary. It's all about the beautiful yoga mantras and our meditation upon the divine sounds.

Sleep Yoga and meditation for deep relaxation and rejuvenation

Sleep Yoga guided meditation

If you have been to a yoga class you will have experienced some yoga nidra before. Some teachers begin the class with yoga nidra as well as practise it at the end of the yoga class. In the final yoga relaxation part of most yoga sessions the teacher will invite all the students to lie on their mat in sarvasana, dead body pose. The students are then guided through a well planned sequence of deep peace relaxation talk, this settles the healing energy and helps everyone to unwind.

If you ever have the opportunity to attend a Relax Renew Replenish yoga nidra session I would strongly advise you do so. It is a very, very blissful relaxing experience not to be missed. The teacher will talk you through a routine in which you will be asked to pay attention to your breath and also pay keep a gentle awareness onattention to what is going on throughout your body. There is so much to it, I don't really want to spoil it for you, so my advise would be to pop along to a class when you can and immerse yourself in the experience.

I will just say that you will notice the tension you are holding in your body and be able to let it go, exhale it away on your outward breath. You will also notice your breath slowing and deepening, developing into a rejuvenating deep smooth wave of breath as you inhale and exhale.

Students have commented that  they were not sure if they went to sleep or not, but were aware that they experienced a deep sublime form of relaxation, a state of heightened awareness while still being mindful of hearing everything the teacher said, including following the instructions at the end to stretch through fingers and toes. They were incredibly bemused by the fact that the hour spent lying on their yoga mat doing essentially nothing went by in a flash.

Yoga nidra is an excellent remedy for insomnia and anxiety. A number of students have shared the fact that they suffered from insomnia for years but after yoga nidra they were able to fall asleep happily in their beds and sleep for 7 - 8 hours or more.

We do have Yoga Nidra Cd's available for purchase if you are unable to come to class on a regular basis, just ask about them when you come and see us.

If you would like to find out more about the practice of  yoga meditation you can contact us. Leave a comment and your details below, we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Check out our Yoga timetable for an activity and time that suits your schedule. Rsvp, by going to our facebook page, yogameditationstudiopalmbeach  we are ready and willing to help. See you in class.

Forgiveness - Yoga Palm Beach

Forgiveness

Is good for your heart. One study from the Journal of Behavioural Medicine found forgiveness to be associated with lower heart rate and blood pressure as well as lowering stress levels. This can bring long term health benefits for your heart and overall health.

Practical Steps

So how does one go about forgiving? How do we forgive? We seek to understand rather than judge.

The Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, defines forgivable as “something that you are able to forgive because you understand it.”

  • Jesus Christ demonstrated his understanding of human fallibility when he said on the cross “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do”.
  • Since humans are not omniscient, or infallible, mistakes are inevitable for all of us.
  • When we understand and accept human fallibility, it becomes much easier to forgive the mistakes of others, and even our own.
  • Make a conscious decision not to seek revenge or nurse a grudge, decide instead to forgive. This conversion of the heart is a critical stage toward forgiveness.
  • Acknowledge that by forgiving you can experience inner healing and move on with life.
  • Try to see things from the other persons perspective.
  • Accept the pain you’ve experienced don't pass it on to others, including the person involved.
  • Choose to extend goodwill and mercy toward the other party, wish for the well being of that person.
  • Realistic acceptance of human fallibility brings the benefits of forgiveness.
Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Drs. Warren Jones and Kathleen Lawler found that harbouring anger and resentment tends to increase blood pressure. Forgiving seems to have overall cardiovascular benefits.

A study conducted at University of Michigan Institute for Social Research found that forgiving others was linked with better self reported mental and physical health.

  • Forgiveness powerfully changes our feelings about the past. Forgiveness does not change the past. But our feelings about the past can change.
  • The amazing benefit of forgiveness is this - When we make peace with the past, forgiveness frees us. We are able to live a better, healthier, and happier life.
  • The rewards and benefits of forgiveness are very practical. Compassionate understanding makes forgiveness possible.
  Benefits of Forgiveness

1. Decrease in heart rate and blood pressure
2. Relief from stress (physical and emotional)
3. Decrease in medication
4. Improved sleep patterns and increased vitality
5. Decreased physical complaints such as tension headaches
6. Reduction in depressive symptoms
7. Deep healing and a greater sense of peace and well-being.
8. Better conflict management
9. An overall improvement in relationships
10. Increase in compassion, altruistic behaviours

Yoga Breath - Practice and benefits

Yoga Breathing
Slow deep breathing helps you relax - At the end of a yoga class the teacher will take the class through a short session of yoga nidra or rest and relaxation. The teacher talks the class through simple breathing techniques, focusing on the breath, slowing the breath down, noticing the breath and so on. Breathing deeply helps you relax. This is also why people are encouraged to breathe deeply when they are angry or upset. Taking deep breaths increases the oxygen flow to your brain which helps keep you calm.

Slow deep breathing may reduce your risk of high blood pressure - Some medical studies show a connection between high blood pressure and shallow, fast breathing. It makes sense then that the faster your breathing rate, the higher your likelihood of suffering from high blood pressure. Consistent practise of hatha yoga is a very healthy habit to develop. There is so much emphasis placed on the importance of breathing and breathing technique that breathing correctly becomes a habit. Simply by taking time each day to be more aware of your breath, trying to breathe slowly and deeply can truly help you lower your risk of high blood pressure.

Slow deep breathing can increase your energy level - If you have trouble staying awake after you eat whether it be, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Why not try slow deep breathing instead of turning to stimulants like caffeine. When we breathe deeply into the lower part of the belly (the area just below the belly button) we are inhaling into the bottom most part of the lungs. The highest concentration of avioli (air sacs) are located in this part of the lungs so when we inhale into this area of the lungs, the body has access to more oxygen and has more of it to send to the cells in our body. The extra oxygen that you get from those deep breaths can give you the boost you need to get through your day.

Yoga Nidra Guided Meditation for Insomnia - Yoga Palm Beach

Insomnia

Our lifestyles have caused an insomnia epidemic.

The inability to achieve a good night’s sleep is one of the biggest factors undermining our quality of life today.

A large percentage of the worlds population suffer from sleeping problems. Approximately a third of these have chronic insomnia which affects moods, physical health, relationships and careers.

Due to this epidemic of chronic sleeping disorders, the birth of or, maybe I should say a resurgence of yoga nidra, or deep replenishing sleep yoga has come about.

Yoga nidra, not only teaches students how to relax and sleep but also provides the knowledge and encouragement necessary so that students are able to transfer their yoga nidra experience into their daily life. They are able to maintain a calm mind, focus and balance through out their day.

In the West, more vigorous styles of yoga have found favour. However in the East for example India (known as the mother land of Yoga), their are a huge variety of yoga styles including the gentle style of pranayama (breath awareness exercises) as well as wakeful sleep, or the yoga of sleep. The regular practice of deep peaceful relaxation has for years been touted as one of the most beneficial practises you can do to improve mental health and  wellbeing.

If you would like to come to a class to stretch, practice yoga nidra and meditation, you are welcome to leave a comment below along with your details, we will contact you as soon as we can. Check our Timetable for a time that would suit you and come join in.

Yoga Health - Yoga Palm Beach

Yoga asanas

Each posture, or asana, is held for a period of time and linked with breathing. Generally, a yoga session begins with gentle asanas and works up to the more vigorous or challenging postures. A full yoga session should exercise every part of the body and should include pranayama (breath control practices), relaxation and meditation. The different postures or asanas include:

  •     Lying postures
  •     Sitting postures
  •     Standing postures
  •     Inverted, or upside down postures.

The physical building blocks of yoga are the posture (asana) and the breath. A series of poses held in time with breathing.

Benefits include:
  • Cardiovascular system (heart and arteries) – asanas are isometric, which means they rely on holding muscle tension for a short period of time. This improves cardiovascular fitness and circulation.
  • Studies show that regular yoga practice may help normalise blood pressure.
  •  Digestive system – improved blood circulation and the massaging effect of surrounding muscles speeds up a sluggish digestion.
  • Musculo-skeletal – joints are moved through their full range of motion, which encourages mobility and eases pressure. The gentle stretching releases muscle tension and increases flexibility. Maintaining many of the asanas encourages strength and endurance. Weight-bearing asanas may help prevent osteoporosis, and may also help those already diagnosed with osteoporosis, practiced with care, under the supervision of a qualified yoga teacher. Long-term benefits include reduced back pain and improved posture.
  • Nervous system – improved blood circulation, easing of muscle tension and the act of focusing the mind on the breath all combine to soothe the nervous system. Long-term benefits include reduced stress and anxiety levels, and increased feelings of calm and wellbeing.
There is no doubt that Yoga asanas (when practiced safely) are incredibly effective in maintaining the health and wellbeing of our body. We hold classes in yoga and meditation regularly. Why don't you come and try yoga asanas for yourself, check our Timetable for a time that would suit you and come join in.
