Yoga teachers - Prayer / Meditation

Bow Your Head

We all go through "stormy weather" experience hardship, struggles, sadness, loneliness. During these times it is very helpful to remember the teachings of the Yoga teachers, past and present self realised personalities who help us by sharing ancient truth, knowledge, insights and spiritual understanding. This is a very deep subject matter, the understanding of which we can prepare for by paving the way with meditation. Mantra yoga cleanses the mind and purifies the heart so that we are better able to understand transcendental information.

If you would like to know more, or would be interested in practicing yoga meditation you can leave us a comment or you can go here to our facebook page like our page and leave a comment or rsvp for a class. We look forward to meeting you.

Health Benefits of Coconut Water

Coconut water, or also known as coconut juice, is the nutritious clear liquid that is inside the coconut fruit. The liquid will get absorbed and become part of coconut flesh as it matures. So, for best result, consume it shortly after harvested from the coconut tree while they are still young and green.
Coconut water has been a popular drink in tropical regions, especially in Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands such as Hawaii, where it is available fresh, canned, or bottled. In the US, coconut water is often sold in bottles and tetra packs.
Coconut water is low in sugar and fat but high in electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus, making it a better isotonic drink than any sports beverage sold on the market.
Coconut water is also considered as a “fluid of life” because it contains many key nutrients such as Lauric acid, Chloride, Iron, Zinc, Manganese and Selenium as well as important electrolytes. A healthy balance of electrolytes and minerals are essential for optimal health of our cardiovascular, muscles, nervous and immune systems.

Health Benefits of Coconut Water

  1. Reduce high blood pressure
Coconut water is high in potassium and some studies have reported that low levels of potassium has been linked to high blood pressure. Therefore, drinking coconut water regularly can help in regulating blood pressure. Similar recent studies also have found that coconut water can help raise HDL (good) cholesterol, which makes it an excellent natural treatment for maintaining good cardiovascular health.
  2. Strengthens the Immune System
The lauric acid in Coconut water has antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and antiprotozoal properties, which help strengthen the body’s immune system against a variety of viruses and illness.
  3. Keeps the Body Hydrated
Since coconut water contains all five of the same electrolytes that the body has, including potassium, magnesium, chloride, calcium and sodium it plays  an important role in keeping the body hydrated during physical activities. Even the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have fought for a patent in 2000 to promote coconut water as the next big sports drink.
  4.  Helps Lose Weight
Coconut water is low in calories and 99% fat-free. A serving of coconut water has just 46 calories. So regular intake of coconut water can help shed unwanted pounds by increasing the metabolic rate.
  5. Aids in Digestion and Metabolism
Coconut water contains various bioactive enzymes such as acid phosphatase, catalase, dehydrogenase, diastase, peroxidase and RNA polymerases, which help to overcome the problem of digestion and metabolism. Drinking of coconut water on a regular basis has been shown effective in dealing abdomen discomfort.
  6. Improve Blood Circulation
Coconut water is also good source of fiber, vitamin C and protein which can help in improving blood circulation and heart rate.
  7. Good for Pregnant Women
Coconut water is an efficient natural remedy for pregnant women who suffer from acidity, constipation and heartburn problems. It also helps boost the levels of amniotic fluid, which plays a vital role in the overall wellness of the baby. With such great benefits, it is no wonder that coconut water is recommended for pregnant women.
  8. Treats Urinary Infections
Coconut water is a natural diuretic which helps prevent urinary tract infections (UTI) as well as relieve the kidney stones problem.
  9. Promotes Skin Health
Coconut water acts as a light moisturizer which also decreases excessive oil on the skin. This proves to be beneficial for smoothing the skin as well. It can be used directly to a bath or mix with liquid shower gel. This natural water is also best for treating acne and blackheads as well.
  10. Increase Energy Levels
The lauric acid in coconut water stimulates the production of thyroid hormones, thereby increasing your metabolic rate, which in turn increase your energy level.

Practice Kindness

Timeless Yoga teachings

 The wisdom of the Yoga scriptures teach us that;

"There is a soul within the body of every living entity,
whether animal, tree, bird or human being"

Therefore, we should respect and be kind to all living beings.

The atomic soul, although so small, is moving the entire body to act in so many wonderful ways. In the world we see so many cities, highways, bridges, great buildings, monuments, and great civilisations, but who has done all this? It is all done by the minute spirit spark within the body.

If such wonderful things can be performed by the minute spirit spark, we cannot begin to imagine what can be accomplished by the Supreme Spirit Whole.

Meditation Instruments

Meditation

Is best practiced daily, although even a little every now and then is very positive and will leave an indelible impression on one's heart and mind, a person will be uplifted and changed forever.

The beautiful practice of sacred sound meditation (kirtan) has been practiced and taught by Yoga masters for centuries. This practice has been passed along from person to person and is an extraordinarily precious gift, the most valuable of all special gifts, potent, very simple and purifying.

Meditation is easy to practice and is very enjoyable, it has a freeing effect on everyone, all living beings. This meditation bestows upon the practitioner profound long term benefits, spiritually enriching the lives of all those fortunate enough to come into contact with these meditations, regardless of body they are in.

As you can see there are many instruments that can accompany your practice of meditation. Instruments are best played softly embellishing your practice, played in such a way as to support rather than overpower one's practice.

It is recommended that you listen carefully to the sacred sounds, singing meditation (kirtan) and be ready to respond to the person leading the meditation. This is referred to as call and response.

If you would like to know more about this, check out our timetable and drop by for a class. Txt us to rsvp so we know when to expect you. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Benefits of Laughter - Benefits of Yoga Meditation

Benefits of Laughter

1. Laughter relieves stress:

Endorphins are a natural stress reliever. Making a point of sharing a laugh with family or friends each day can lessen overall stress.

2. Laughter reduces pain:

Laughing releases natural painkillers in your body. It really is the best medicine.

3. Laughter strengthens relationships:

Laughing helps create and maintain bonds. Laughing with coworkers and new acquaintances insures your relationships will remain positive and enjoyable.

4. Laughter improves breathing:

Laughter empties your lungs of more air than it takes in resulting in a cleansing effect - similar to deep breathing. This is especially helpful for people who are suffering from respiratory ailments, such as asthma.

5. Laughter gives you a mini workout:

Yoga Meditation

We've probably all used, or at least heard, the phrase 'my sides ache' after laughing too much. Well, it's no real surprise. A good belly laugh exercises the diaphragm, contracts your abdominal muscles and also works your shoulders. This helps to relieve tension and can make you feel more relaxed.

6. Laughter boosts your immune system and is free:

Researchers have found that laughter actually boosts the immune system, increasing the number of antibody producing T cells. It also lowers the levels of at least four hormones that are associated with stress, so after a good laugh you are bound to be far less stressed.

Laughter like so many activities we are involved in help to relieve stress, loneliness, anxiety. We can sit on the beach at sunset, watch the waves roll in and feel the warmth of the sun in the air, this has a lovely calming, peaceful effect on us, this is very beneficial, helps to relieve stress so this is good. But we know that we are not our physical or subtle bodies, In fact the ancient Yoga txts confirm this. We are spiritual in essence therefore we need something that will nourish us.  Ancient Yoga wisdom tell us that transcendental sound is the solution. Transcendental  sound descends from the higher spiritual realm bringing with it spiritual potency. Often referred to as prayers, meditations, or mantras, these sounds can nourish us spiritually and give us the peace and happiness we are always searching for.

This is a very indepth subject, very enlightening and interesting. If you would like to learn more about how to meditate why not call and book in for a Meditation Class via skype, it's FREE and can be given at a time that would suit you, in the comfort of your home. Isn't technology wonderful.

A few quotes on patience - Meditation Yoga Palm Beach

Other Thoughts on Patience:

  • People who are impatient usually have difficulty resisting the need for immediate gratification. Sometimes they seem to be impulsive. Studies have shown that meditation helps with this. The silent witness meditation technique is especially helpful in this instance.
  •  The most famous quote about patience equates it with love: “Love is patient” (See 1 Corinthians 13:4).
  • If you don’t have patience, you may find it difficult to reach your goals. Usually challenges and obstacles arise after setting important goals. As we know, physicians recommend the regular practice of meditation to help develop patience, determination and be able to handle the stress that comes along with trying to rise above challenges and ultimately reach the goals a person has set for themselves.
  •  People with patience follow the motto, “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” People who lack patience tend to quit when things get difficult. Meditation techniques such as the silent witness, help a person to take a 3rd party view of what's taking place in their life, they take the position of observer and therefore are able to remain aloof and seperate from; the stress they may be experiencing. This obviously has tremendous benefits.
  •  Getting impatient won’t make things move along any faster, so why get worked up?

Quotes on Patience:
  •   All things come round to him who will but wait. — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
  •  Like farmers we need to learn that we cannot sow and reap the same day. –Anonymous
  •  Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet. –Jean Jacques Rousseau
  •  He that can have patience can have what he will. –Benjamin Franklin
  •  Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. –Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • Everything comes gradually and at its appointed hour. –Ovid
  • How poor are they who have not patience! What wound did ever heal but by degrees. –Shakespear
  • One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life. –Chinese Proverb
  • Patience is the companion of wisdom. –St. Augustine
  • You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. –Franklin P. Jones
  • Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead. –Mac McCleary
  • “Rome was not built in a day” Like the building of Rome, in times of stress, just stay the course and be patient.

Yoga meditation, breathing, flexibility and strength

 YOGA FOR BETTER BREATHING:

Yoga teaches people to take slower, deeper breaths. This helps to improve lung function,
trigger the body’s relaxation response and increase the amount of oxygen available to the
body.

 YOGA FOR FLEXIBILITY:

Yoga helps to improve flexibility and mobility, increasing range of movement and reducing
aches and pains. Many people can’t touch their toes during their first yoga class. Gradually
they begin to use the correct muscles. Over time, the ligaments, tendons and muscles
lengthen, increasing elasticity, making more poses possible. Yoga also helps to improve body alignment resulting in better posture and helping to relieve back, neck, joint and muscle problems.

YOGA FOR INCREASED STRENGTH:

Yoga asanas (postures) use every muscle in the body, helping to increase strength literally
from head totoe. And, while these postures strengthen the body, they also provide an
additional benefit of helping to relieve muscular tension.

Check out our Yoga timetable for an activity and time that suits your schedule. Rsvp, by going to our facebook page, yogameditationstudiopalmbeach leave a comment there or alternately leave a comment here. We are ready and willing to help. See you in class.

Tips on how to develop patience - Meditation always helps

How to Develop Patience: Practice Mantra Meditation

1 – Take a day where you make patience your goal for the entire day.

2 – Slow down.

3 – Practice delaying gratification.

4 – Practice thinking before you speak. If we’re patient, pause and go over what we want to say, we can avoid hurting or offending others.

5 – Take deep breaths to try to relax when you find yourself getting impatient. Whenever we are stressed we tend to lose our patience. Remember your pranayama or yoga breathing, try to switch from grumpy and impaitent to calm and relaxed by taking just a little  time to breathe. The results will be encouraging.

6 – Identify the things that are causing you to become stressed out.

7 – Don’t rush things. You don't have to change the world in one day.

8 – Think back to a time that you had to wait for something which turned out to be rewarding.

9 – Next time you have to wait for something, take time to do something fun, change your mind set, practise deep breathing and meditate.

10 – Take the time to help others. For example, having to deal with the elderly and the hearing impaired definitely requires patience. By helping others on a regular basis, such as the elderly, you will find yourself slowing down a bit and becoming more patient. Patience can bring out the compassionate side of you.

11 – Plan ahead. Instead of rushing, give yourself enough time and allow for unforeseen circumstances. For example: Plan to leave home earlier than you normally would. Give yourself sufficient time to finish a project by the due date, instead of waiting until the last minute.

12 – Practice Acceptance.

-You need to remind yourself that sometimes it takes longer to reach your outcome. Meditation helps to put life into prospective.

-At times people disappoint you. Many times your expectation takes time to materialize. It is not what happens that matters but how you react.

-Do something constructive while waiting. It keeps your mind and your time occupied and helps you avoid unnecessary stress from worrying and becoming anxious and uptight.

13 – Cultivate Faith.

-Difficulties and tragedies happen. Believe that there is an advantage behind every misfortune, there is a silver lining. Look at difficulties as lifes lessons they help us examine,  ask  questions, is there more to life than what I am experiencing right now, why am I always frustrated.

- Meditation will help you stay calm when you are faced with adversities. Find more methods or seek advice to help you cope and help you get answers.

If you would like to find out more about how the practice of  yoga meditation can help you develop paitence, and overcome frustration you are most welcome to contact us. Leave a comment and your details below, we will get back to you as soon as we can.

UKULELE LESSONS
& meditation
  • Very easy
  • How to Tune a uke
  • How to hold a uke
  • Easy chords
  • Play songs
Turn your old favourite tunes Into soothing and relaxing easy to remember meditative songs.

Your first one need not be super expensive, you can begin with a budget uke until you decide what you would really like to own out of the 4 sizes available. You will learn at least one very lovely, memorable meditation within your first lesson.

It's very easy to learn ukulele by using yoga mantra phrasing. Come and try it for yourself.  We will have a couple ukes available if you wanted to purchase one to use at the class.

Or: dust off your own ukulele bring it along, get those brain cells firing, have a few laughs & make some new friends.

Leave us a comment or txt 0468344108, 0437869983,  if you are interested.

Would You Believe It?
The Surprising Benefits of the Ukulele.

Hawaii is offering something very newsworthy, in larger numbers than ever before–an instrument through which almost anyone can find musical expression, enriching their own lives as well as those around them.

Such are the unexpected benefits of playing the ukulele.
The association of the ukulele with Hawaii is far from new. In fact, it is a descendant of a four-stringed instrument brought to Hawaii in the late 1870′s from Portugal.  It has gone through several waves of popularity since then. Remember Tiny Tim?

But nothing quite compares to the current ukulele craze. It all began in 1999, when Israel Kamakawiwo’ole ‘s ukulele version of “Over the Rainbow” was used in a commercial for eToys. That recording has been licensed over 100 times since, to sell everything from paint to lottery tickets to food, software, and banking services.

A number of major pop artists and indie rock groups have fed this craze. They include Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, who is about to release a new solo album, “Ukulele Songs.”

And don’t forget Joe Browns (I'll see you in my dreams) tribute to George Harrison at the 2002 “Concert for George.” Four years later Jake Shimabukuro’s rendition of  Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral on YouTube.

See Tommy Emmanuel and Jake Shimabukuro's awesome rendition here.

Most importantly, as singer Amanda Palmer, formerly of  the punk cabaret group, Dresden Dolls, puts it,the ukulele is the ideal instrument for the D.I.Y age. It represents everything that “the grand polished machine of the music industry is not.

This is the age of democratization in music. Anyone can be a musician. And in a recession, when you have a $20 instrument and there is a big musical renaissance, anyone will want to join in.”

Local strumming groups are springing up all over the place because no special  training is required to join. Ukulele strumming goes so well with untrained vocal styles.

We were charmed recently by a photo of two middle-aged women learning to play the ukulele together.  They looked so excited and pleased with themselves. It brought home clearly the inner rewards that people get from making music for fun, whether you sing alone in the shower or join a ukulele orchestra.

If you already know how to play, come along and give us a few tips. We are always open to learning more.

To all newcomers ... We all HAVE to START somewhere. Now's the Time ..!

Trees and their many benefits - Yoga Palm Beach

Benefits of Trees

Here are a few  of the best reasons to plant and care for trees or defend a tree’s standing:

Trees combat the greenhouse effect

Global warming is the result of excess greenhouse gases, created by burning fossil fuels and destroying tropical rain forests. Heat from the sun, reflected back from the earth, is trapped in this thickening layer of gases, causing global temperatures to rise. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a major greenhouse gas. Trees absorb CO2, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles.

Trees clean the air

Trees absorb odours and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulphur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark.

Trees provide oxygen

In one year an acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people.

Trees cool the streets and the city

Average temperatures in Los Angeles have risen 6°F in the last 50 years as tree coverage has declined and the number of heat-absorbing roads and buildings has increased.

Trees cool the city by up to 10°F, by shading our homes and streets, breaking up urban “heat islands” and releasing water vapour into the air through their leaves.

Trees conserve energy

Three trees placed strategically around a single-family home can cut summer air conditioning needs by up to 50 percent. By reducing the energy demand for cooling our houses, we reduce carbon dioxide and other pollution emissions from power plants.

Trees save water

Shade from trees slows water evaporation from thirsty lawns. Most newly planted trees need only fifteen gallons of water a week. As trees transpire, they increase atmospheric moisture.

Trees help prevent water pollution

Trees reduce runoff by breaking rainfall thus allowing the water to flow down the trunk and into the earth below the tree. This prevents storm water from carrying pollutants to the ocean. When mulched, trees act like a sponge that filters this water naturally and uses it to recharge groundwater supplies.

Trees help prevent soil erosion

On hillsides or stream slopes, trees slow runoff and hold soil in place.

Trees shield children from ultra-violet rays

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Trees reduce UV-B exposure by about 50 percent, thus providing protection to children on school campuses and playgrounds - where children spend hours outdoors.

Trees provide food

An apple tree can yield up to 15-20 bushels of fruit per year and can be planted on the tiniest urban lot. Aside from fruit for humans, trees provide food for birds and wildlife.

Trees heal

Studies have shown that patients with views of trees out their windows heal faster and with less complications. Children with ADHD show fewer symptoms when they have access to nature. Exposure to trees and nature aids concentration by reducing mental fatigue.

Whenever you get a chance consider planting some trees, a lemon tree, (we have one in our front yard) and  it's really nice to see bees flying around collecting pollen. Talk to your children about the awesome benefits of trees and tree plantings. So important  for our planet and for future generations.

Karma

*    "What goes around comes around"

*   "As ye sow, so shall ye reap"

*   "For every action there is a reaction"

The word Karma means action, what is implied by this term - is this law; that to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, either on the gross physical level, or on the subtle level. As long as we have a human form we are held responsible for our actions and must reap the reactions sooner or later, now or in the future.

Akarma

which means no reaction.

Trees provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife -Yoga Palm Beach

Trees reduce violence
Neighbourhoods and homes that are barren have shown to have a greater incidence of violence in and out of the home than their greener counterparts. Trees and landscaping help to reduce the level of fear.

Trees mark the seasons
Is it winter, spring, summer or fall? Look at the trees.

Trees create economic opportunities
Fruit harvested from community orchards can be sold, thus providing income. Small business opportunities in green waste management and landscaping arise when cities value mulching and its water-saving qualities. Vocational training for youth interested in green jobs is also a great way to develop economic opportunities from trees.

Trees are teachers and playmates
Whether as houses for children or creative and spiritual inspiration for adults, trees have provided the space for human retreat throughout the ages.

Trees bring diverse groups of people together
Tree plantings provide an opportunity for community involvement and empowerment that improves the quality of life in our neighbourhoods. All cultures, ages, and genders have an important role to play at a tree planting or tree care event.

Trees add unity
Trees as landmarks can give a neighbourhood a new identity and encourage civic pride.

Trees provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife
Sycamore and oak are among the many urban species that provide excellent urban homes for birds, bees, possums and squirrels.

Trees block things
Trees can mask concrete walls or parking lots, and unsightly views. They muffle sound from nearby streets and freeways, and create an eye-soothing canopy of green. Trees absorb dust and wind and reduce glare.

Trees provide wood
In suburban and rural areas, trees can be selectively harvested for fuel and craft wood.

Trees increase property values
The beauty of a well-planted property and its surrounding street and neighbourhood can raise property values by as much as 15 percent.

Trees increase business traffic

Studies show that the more trees and landscaping a business district has, the more business will flow in. A tree-lined street will also slow traffic – enough to allow the drivers to look at the store fronts instead of whizzing by.

Planting  trees is a worthwhile investment of time and money. Invest in the future of our children and mother earth.
